New Year's Eve

My new year's eve was not too eventful, but rather relaxing. I didn't dare go outside in the freeeeeezing cold, and I think going out on the street would've been suicide anyway. It was total madness here. The noise was terrible. I enjoyed the sights from behind my windows a bit. Nice and warm. From the 8th floor you've got a good view over a huge part of the city and surrounding areas.

When going home on the tram earlier during the day I had spotted a MASSIVE pile of wood and christmas trees being constructed for a huge bonfire, on the edge of The Hague. It was cylindrical in shape. Aproximately 10 meters high, and 10 meters indiameter as well. The outer 'shell was about 1.5 meter thick and completely constructed out of wooden pallets. The innarts were all Christmas trees and other stuff that can burn.
That must have been an amazingly big fire. Too bad it was too far away in the freezing cold to go and take shots of that. But some of my neighbours had done a pretty good job as well. To give you a sense of scale on the next picture: the top of the flames reach the fifth floor.

My cat was not a stressed as could be, but still he was pretty restless, and refused to get anywhere nearer the window than the part of the bed furthest away from it. Still.... he remains a cat... so after a while he got used to it and snoozy again....

And there we are... 2009. Let the fun begin!
