Lonely Drifter Karen - Paradiso Amsterdam

LonelyDrifterKarenParadiso.jpg

Since I'm going on a little minibreak to Paris upcoming weekend, I spend some time during the last weekend to see what's to do overthere. I stumbled uppon the website of some music joint, and they had some music playing in the background, using some flash player. The songs were quite pleasant, and one particular one grabbed my attention. A song called "The Owl Moans Low" by "Lonely Drifter Karen". I really liked it and played it a few more times. I even looked it up on youtube:

Then I thought I'd look for her website, and discovered her myspace address. Turns out it's not just a her, but 2 guys and a her. She was from Vienna, and had drifted around Europe for a while, and has now apparently settled in Barcelona, or so it seems. And surprise surprise, they were playing in The Netherlands this week! World renowned venue Paradiso to be exact! Amazing.

Since I had nothing better to do this evening anyway, I set off on my own to Paradiso to have a look/listen. The concert was in the small venue upstairs. And it was brilliant. Magical. Even more than the songs I found online already, their life performance is so.... vibrant. So bombastic and sometimes so frail. Sometimes so... afraid and yet so trusting. Insecure but cheeky. It's hard to explain. All I can say is that I heartily recommend their music to you.

I hope to see them again some day!
