Everything fades. Everything gets older. Everything comes to an end some they. Except the end. The end will only begin. But anyhow. 3 years ago I posted this picture:
2 Big fat SGI supercomputers standing in my humble home. Amazing. They were pretty old then already, but still fun to play with. They would actually still be rightnow, but hey... life moves on. So I sold one of the two to a university in Germany. And the other one... well... I basically scrapped it.
Earlier this week Whizzman came to pick up the logic boards that still had any value. With those gone, it was time to go and take it all apart. Now, this is the only part still standing:
And outside my front door, there's a loooot of metal bits:
And why didn't I take the main chassis out yet? Simply because by now the angle grinder got a bit exhausted:
Not having the right tool here to replace the blade, I'm forced to postpone the rest to some later date. In the meantime.... anybody interested in some scrap metal that cost about half a million when it was new 12 years ago? :-P

Too bad you had to put these two old horses down this way...
Do you remember, I was almost there when you moved the Challenge from our int13h friends' van to your place? It took me more time than I expected from Amsterdam to Rijswijk back then (tram - Amsterdam centraal - train - des Gravenhage centraal - tram), and I didn't make it on time... Had I been there, I'd have helped (at least a bit).
